But Batman is ready to tackle it with all-new gadgets and his greatest—and most dangerous—allies. Which is good, because he’ll need all the help he can get for his journey into the darkest corners of Gotham City.
Based on the blockbuster video game published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, developed by Rocksteady Studios, and licensed by DC Entertainment.

Well it has been a great run of over 120 lead figurines from Eaglemoss based on DC Comics characters, but the end has officially come. This news comes at an unfortunate time in the life of the collection. In February the line won the “Best Magazine of 2011″ award from the Diamond GEM Awards. It looked as if things were really starting to pick up steam for the line.

The following was posted over at the Super Hero Figurine Forum concerning the cancellation of the line.

It is with profound sadness that thanks to our sources at Eaglemoss we are able to now confirm the end of the DC Superhero Figurine Collection. The collection will end with figure 120 Kid Flash, despite the best efforts of our last letter writing campaign, which was greatly appreciated by everyone at Eaglemoss. The Marketing Team have said that the decision to end the collection is purely financial.

We suggested the idea of a Fire and Ice double pack or other specials to “finish” off the collection and give the collectors a chance to have some closure, however it was deemed “extremely unlikely” that anymore specials would be presented for the DC line as time was so short and as for the Fire and Ice two pack idea; that the case for double packs has not proven financially viable for either collection moving forward.

The EM Editorial Team shares our sadness at the cancellation of this awesome product line and acknowledges how frustrating it is that so many great DC heroes and villains will be left undone.”

Mattel has released a look at the items that will be available exclusively at San Diego Comic-Con 2012. This looks to be a rather lack-luster offering for those that are fans of DC Universe Classics. The Tiny Titans item is fairly cool though.

DCU Tiny Titans ($20)
They may be miniscule, but they’re mighty! The core team of Tiny Titans is rendered in 1-1/2” scale in this 5-pack of collectible figures including Robin, Raven, Starfire, Cyborg, and Beast Boy. Sidekick City Elementary is just a quick bus ride away with packaging featuring specially commissioned artwork from Tiny Titans’ series creator. The display base has both the official Tiny Titans logo and a “flight” stand just for Raven.

Polly Pocket DC Comics Villains Set ($19.99)
It’s a guaranteed adventure with this trio of comic-book character costumes for Polly® and her friends! Polly®, Lila® and Lea® arrive in a themed 3-pack dressed as their favorite DC Comics villains: Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn.

DC Comics Vertigo Death ($25)

Some envision Death as a grim reaper or dark angel to be feared. But as created by Neil Gaiman for DC Comics’ line of Vertigo comics, the Sandman`s older sister is pretty, perky and always gets the job done. She`s been around since the beginning of time and is exactly the kind of girl you`ll want to follow into the unknown. Our 8” figure of Death wears her trademark ankh necklace and comes with a skull-themed display base.

Eagelmoss has released an image of their upcoming Special Giganta figurine. This will apparently not be a regular release due to the size, but a special similar to the larger releases in the past. No word on a release date or price yet, but you can expect to get that information soon.

Giganta is Dr. Doris Zeul, who suffers from a fatal blood disease. She captures Wonder Woman and plans to put her “life-essence” into Wonder Woman’s body using an experimental machine. Interrupted by Wonder Girl halfway through the experiment she ends up with her consciousness in a test animal gorilla named Giganta.

Desperate to return her mind to a human body, Zeul the gorilla abducts a comatose circus strongwoman named Olga with size changing abilities through unknown means, (though Olga was comatose due to a mysterious shaman) and uses the machine to successfully transfer her mind into that body and keeps the villain name “Giganta”.

Following her transformation, Giganta allies herself with Queen Clea and the modern incarnation of Villainy Inc. in an attempt to conquer the lost world of Skartaris. Villainy Inc. is defeated by Wonder Woman, but Giganta is subsequently seen as a member of several criminal groups, including the Secret Society of Super Villains.

As part of the Society, she takes part in the “Battle of Metropolis”, a confrontation with multiple heroes, including Elasti-Girl, the size-changing member of the Doom Patrol. The Society ultimately loses this battle.

When Diana Prince noted that Giganta’s intellect reduces as she grows in size, compelling the villain to become less rational and more prone to violence, she was corrected by her colleagues in the Department of Metahuman Affairs. They implied that Giganta has overcome that limitation and retains her full intelligence at any size.

After a long hiatus, we are bringing back a rather popular segment for the site, “Ask Matty”. In this addition we try to ask some stuff questions, and we get a few surprising answers along with some of the same “no comment” type answers. If you have a question for Mattel concerning their DC licensed toys, visit our forum and post them in the Mattel section.

DCCollectors -Now that Green Lantern: The Animated Series has finally hit, can we expect some type of toys from Mattel or is it still up in the air due to the sales of the movie figures?

Matty -At this point, we have backed away from those plans and are awaiting series results.

DCCollectors -With the popularity and demand for Hasbro’s Marvel Universe 3 3/4″ line of figures, why hasn’t Mattel released a compareable line of figures with the DC license?

Matty -This is something that we always think about. However, for many confidential reasons, we don’t do. One day, we might, but for now, we’re happy with our current executions.

DCCollectors - I think there is still some confusion among fans about the DC All-Star line. Will we get “B” and “C” level characters (for example Captain Atom or O.M.A.C.) in their New 52 costumes in the All-Star line?

Matty -As of now, there are no plans.

DCCollectors - Without going into numbers, how has the New 52 affected sales for Mattel and their DC license?

Matty -Great question… I have to leave it at that! Sorry! =)

DCCollectors - With the price of oil seemingly on an endless rise, can we expect a price increase across all products in 2012?

Matty - We will have price increases to all of our online items in 2013 which will be reflected in the sub prices announced at SDCC 2012.

That’s it for this month! Join us again in May for more questions and answers with Mattel!

So we missed the boat a little bit with regard to posting this news, but for those of you that haven’t seen it yet, it looks as if Mattel’s DC brand is dying a slow death. The have recently announced that their Young Justice 4″ and 6″ lines have been cancelled. (One of the most popular cartoons on TV today can’t support a toy line?)

Unfortunately, as you’ve probably noticed at Target, Young Justice didn’t work out well at retail and will be going away. We’re disappointed, but that’s how it can turn out. That doesn’t mean you might not see more one day on Matty.

Another casualty is the DC Universe Series of figures…

“DC Universe is going away after 2012 and there’ll be one more wave of 4. In 2013, we’ll be relaunching our 6″ with complimentary offerings on Matty and at Mass. You guys will be able to complete your collection and I hope you’ll like what we are doing. We’ve taken lessons from DC Universe and Legacy. Overall, we need to adjust to retailers, consumers and what’s selling in volumes that can be supported.

As far as the character that we showed but haven’t released, most of them have been tooled so we’ll be looking for a way to release them in one form or another. However, I can’t 100% guarantee that.”

As a collector, I just don’t understand how toys based on DC characters cannot thrive in retail. It literally blows my mind. The only thing I can think of, is that the property has been mismanaged at every step of the way. I have yet to see any DC product at my local Wal-Mart since day one! (Okay I take that back, I saw the Captain Cold wave of DCUC, which sold out quickly, “The Dark Knight” toys, and “Green Lantern” movie toys.) How is it possible that Hasbro can put 500 Marvel figures on the pegs at my local Wal-Mart and Mattel can’t get a single DC figure on the pegs?

It is truly a sad state of affairs…

BURBANK, CA, April 11, 2012 – DC Entertainment announced today that its collectibles product line, previously known as DC Direct, has been re-launched with a new brand – DC Collectibles. Additionally, in early May 2012 DC Collectibles will expand its online store (www.DCComics.com/Collectibles) to offer its entire product line for sale on the web, in addition to the line’s primary availability in comic book retail locations. For those fans who prefer to purchase a product in-store, the website will also provide information on the closest retail location that carries a particular DC Collectibles product.

“We’ve taken the past year or so to become laser focused on what makes the products in this line special, and what has emerged from that process is DC Collectibles,” stated Geoff Johns, chief creative officer for DC Entertainment. “We’re extremely proud of our line of unique, high-end collectibles, and feel that it caters to fans looking for limited edition, authentic products based on our characters and stories, created by the same artists who work directly on those characters and stories.”

As part of DC Collectibles online sales expansion, two “online exclusive” products will be offered in May and a new line of custom prints will be available for sale only on the web. The first online exclusive is a Flashpoint Action Figure Box Set including: Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and a previously unreleased Emperor Aquaman. The set also include a $500 Wayne Casino Poker Chip. The second online exclusive is a Heroes of the DC Universe: Blackest Night Green Lantern and Sinestro Bust. The new online prints will represent different graphical and artistic themes, branching out beyond comic book artwork. Twenty different designs will be available for sale, all printed on thick, archival paper that is perfect for framing.

“Not all of our fans have access to comic book retail locations, so by expanding our website to offer the entire product line, we’re adding an element of convenience and the ability for fans to collect every single product they’re interested in,” stated Hank Kanalz, senior vice president of digital, DC Entertainment.

For fans attending C2E2 in Chicago this weekend (April 13-15) Geoff Johns will moderate a DC Collectibles panel that will showcase the new website and brand logo, and offer an exclusive sneak peak of never announced DC Collectibles products coming later in 2012. The panel is on Friday, April 13 at 2:30pm CT.

A Kotobukiya Japanese import! Coming up next in the DC Comics Bishoujo Collection (combining DC’s superheroines and villains with traditional Japanese stylings) is the fan favorite wacky psychologist turned harlequin supervillain, Harley Quinn! First appearing in Batman: the Animated Series and then the pages of DC Comics, Harleen Quinzel was originally a brilliant doctor working with patients at Arkham Asylum before she was seduced by the “clown prince of crime” and became the Joker’s girlfriend and assistant. Her villainous ways have brought her into conflict with Batman many times over the years, and she’s found a good friend in the similarly deranged Poison Ivy. Because of her mental instability and affinity for hilarity, Quinn frequently employs comically oversized weapons like her favorite giant hammer. Based on an original illustration by Japan’s renowned Shunya Yamashita, Harley appears here for the first time in the Japanese Bishoujo (pretty girl) style!

Harley Quinn shows off her silly and violent natures as she poses seductively just for you. Perched on her enormous hammer, the sultry psychotic looks adorable in her trademark black, red, and white harlequin costume that hugs all of her curves. She teases you with her legs straddling the hammer’s shaft, her back arched to maximum effect, and her hand right hand gently stroking the upraised end. Harley’s sculpt is fantastic with careful attention paid to her sexy body, the cloth-like movement of her collar and hood, and the fringes on her wrists. With Quinn’s stunning Bishoujo-style face and wonderfully sculpted and painted costume, you won’t need to be as crazy as the Joker to want her around.

Constructed of high-quality pvc plastic and standing 10 inches tall (in the ultimate 1/7 scale) on her exclusive hammer base, Harley Quinn was sculpted by Masahiro “Gill Gill” Takahashi. Display Harley on her own or together with other DC Bishoujo statues like Poison Ivy and Batgirl!

Available September 2012.
