Well it has been a great run of over 120 lead figurines from Eaglemoss based on DC Comics characters, but the end has officially come. This news comes at an unfortunate time in the life of the collection. In February the line won the “Best Magazine of 2011″ award from the Diamond GEM Awards. It looked as if things were really starting to pick up steam for the line.

The following was posted over at the Super Hero Figurine Forum concerning the cancellation of the line.

It is with profound sadness that thanks to our sources at Eaglemoss we are able to now confirm the end of the DC Superhero Figurine Collection. The collection will end with figure 120 Kid Flash, despite the best efforts of our last letter writing campaign, which was greatly appreciated by everyone at Eaglemoss. The Marketing Team have said that the decision to end the collection is purely financial.

We suggested the idea of a Fire and Ice double pack or other specials to “finish” off the collection and give the collectors a chance to have some closure, however it was deemed “extremely unlikely” that anymore specials would be presented for the DC line as time was so short and as for the Fire and Ice two pack idea; that the case for double packs has not proven financially viable for either collection moving forward.

The EM Editorial Team shares our sadness at the cancellation of this awesome product line and acknowledges how frustrating it is that so many great DC heroes and villains will be left undone.”

Eagelmoss has released an image of their upcoming Special Giganta figurine. This will apparently not be a regular release due to the size, but a special similar to the larger releases in the past. No word on a release date or price yet, but you can expect to get that information soon.

Giganta is Dr. Doris Zeul, who suffers from a fatal blood disease. She captures Wonder Woman and plans to put her “life-essence” into Wonder Woman’s body using an experimental machine. Interrupted by Wonder Girl halfway through the experiment she ends up with her consciousness in a test animal gorilla named Giganta.

Desperate to return her mind to a human body, Zeul the gorilla abducts a comatose circus strongwoman named Olga with size changing abilities through unknown means, (though Olga was comatose due to a mysterious shaman) and uses the machine to successfully transfer her mind into that body and keeps the villain name “Giganta”.

Following her transformation, Giganta allies herself with Queen Clea and the modern incarnation of Villainy Inc. in an attempt to conquer the lost world of Skartaris. Villainy Inc. is defeated by Wonder Woman, but Giganta is subsequently seen as a member of several criminal groups, including the Secret Society of Super Villains.

As part of the Society, she takes part in the “Battle of Metropolis”, a confrontation with multiple heroes, including Elasti-Girl, the size-changing member of the Doom Patrol. The Society ultimately loses this battle.

When Diana Prince noted that Giganta’s intellect reduces as she grows in size, compelling the villain to become less rational and more prone to violence, she was corrected by her colleagues in the Department of Metahuman Affairs. They implied that Giganta has overcome that limitation and retains her full intelligence at any size.

Sven from Eaglemoss has posted a preview of their upcoming newest addition to their DC Universe Super Hero Figurine Collection, Red Hood. Red Hood will be figurine number 112 in the Eaglemoss DC line of figurines. No release date has been issued for this one yet.

A new Red Hood appears in the Batman: Under the Red Hood storyline running through Batman comics, written by Judd Winick. Jason Todd, the former Robin killed by The Joker in Batman: A Death in the Family, is revealed to be resurrected and is this new Red Hood. His debut culminates in a fateful confrontation with those he feels have wronged him. He beats the Joker with a crowbar (mirroring the way the Joker had tortured him before killing him with a bomb) and later kidnaps him. The new Red Hood assumes control over various gangs in Gotham City and starts a one-man war against Black Mask’s criminal empire. He actively tries to cleanse the city of corruption, such as the illegal drug trade and gang violence, but in a violent, antiheroic way. He eventually comes to blows against Batman and other heroes allies, including the new Robin, Onyx and Green Arrow.

In the second story arc of Batman and Robin by Grant Morrison and Philip Tan, Jason retakes the mantle of the Red Hood. With the goal of making the very concept of Batman obsolete, he puts a lot of effort into public relations: he drastically alters his Red Hood costume to look more like a traditional superhero outfit, recruits his own sidekick known as Scarlet. In their war on crime Red Hood and Scarlet freely kill criminals, villains and anyone who gets in his way, even the police. After all his killings he leaves behind a calling card which states “let the punishment fit the crime.” He describes his vendetta against Dick Grayson as “the revenge of one crazy man in a mask on another crazy man in a mask.”

See Wikipedia, Red Hood, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Hood (describing history of Jason Todd as the Red Hood) (as of March 6, 2012 at 20:44).

Eaglemoss has released a few new sneak peek images of some upcoming DC Super Hero Figurine Collection pieces. Coming up are Robotman, Grifter, Aqualad, and John Constantine. We have seen Constantine before, but this image is a finished production image with blood splattering on his shirt. No word on release dates yet, but keep checking back as more information becomes available.

Robotman

Robotman is one of the founding members of the Doom Patrol along with Negative Man and Elasti-Girl. He is unique in that he is the only character to appear in every version of the Doom Patrol.

Cliff Steele became Robotman after a race car accident destroyed his body (a retcon had the accident intentionally caused by Niles Caulder). Caulder subsequently placed Cliff’s intact brain into a robotic body. After the operation, Cliff suffered from frequent depression because he viewed himself as less than human. A background serial in Doom Patrol #s 100, 101, 103 & 105 (December 1965 – August 1966) indicated that Caulder made a mistake in the operation that caused Steele to go on a rampage, which was corrected when he was recruited for the Patrol. (These are incompatible with Cliff’s flashback in My Greatest Adventure #80)

Grifter

In the new post-Flashpoint DC Universe, Grifter is a former U.S. Army Special-Ops soldier who deserted and became a con-artist. During one of his latest cons, Cole Cash is assaulted and abducted by Daemonites, aliens who can “possess” human bodies. Cash is held for 17 days, while a Daemonite attempts to take possession of his body. For unknown reasons Cole wakens prematurely, aborting the transfer and leaving him with the ability to overhear the telepathic communication of Daemonites. He subsequently hijacks a plane and kills several Daemonites disguised as humans resulting in him being wanted for crimes and terrorism. Cash is now wanted by several intelligence agencies and his brother Max, also a military special operative, is tasked with apprehending him. Furthermore, the Daemonites also wish to retrieve Cash in order to maintain their secrecy. On the run from his many pursuers, Cash dons a costume from a costume shop in order to conceal his identity.

Aqualad

Jackson Hyde first appeared in Brightest Day #10 (September 2010). This coincides with the appearance of Aqualad in the Young Justice animated series. According to Johns, the new Aqualad is named Jackson Hyde, and is a black teenager from New Mexico. In a teaser poster for the Brightest Day event, he is shown using “hard water” abilities to create a sword. This ability had previously been thought to belong exclusively to Aquaman’s wife, Mera, and people from her world.

John Constantine

It looks as if Eaglemoss’s future with DC Comics could be coming to a close. If you want them to add an extension to the line, then you need to let your voice be heard! Read the following information below and let Eaglemoss know how you feel about their DC Comics licensed figurines.

Earlier today the staff of superherofigurineforum received a message from Sven from Eaglemoss in relation to the future of this collection. Sadly the news wasn’t great. Whilst a final decision hasn’t been made just yet, the prospect of another extension is looking very unlikely.

As a result, he has offered us collectors who would like even more DC figures a chance to try and save it…again!

For those who were around a few months ago, you will remember the successful campaign we launched which resulted in us getting the 101 – 120 extension!

Well once again, we’re asking for your help

If you wish to help us in our endeavor to reach the 140 mark, we ask that you send a letter to Eaglemoss explaining why!!

The address that all letters should be mailed to is:

Guy Holliday
Eaglemoss Publications Ltd
1st Floor, Beaumont House,
Kensington Village,
Avonmore Road,
London,
W14 8TS,
UK

Please keep the letters respectful and fill your letter with reasons you love this fantastic line but no harrasing or abusive letters as they would be counter-productive.

Also just to note, whilst it’s the same address as last time, we are dealing with a different person at Eaglemoss this time around.

We also ask that you share this news and post it on other forums if you can, so we can get other collectors who are not part of the SHFF family to send letters as well. We need all out friends from France, Italy, Brazil, Poland, Spain and everywhere else the collection is available to help!

For those members who do not speak english fluently or need a little assistance, we have composed a template letter that you can copy and add your name to.

Dear Guy,

My name is ____________________ and I am an avid collector of your DC Superhero Collection. I was very disapponted to hear that this amazing collection may not continue past 120 issues. Is there any chance you would reconsider and allow another extension to 140?

The wonderful thing about your collection is the quality of your sculpts, the informative magazine and the wide unique variety of characters that you offer us month in and month out.

I am an avid supporter of this collection and would be very happy if Eaglemoss would please continue it.

Kind Regards,
Your Signature
__________________________

I hope you will all be able to support it and send a letter!
Thank you!!

The next character up in Eaglemoss’s DC Super Hero Figurine collection is Vixen! A member of the Justice League of America and one of the few prominent African American Super Heroes in comics today! Take a look at the sneak peek images below!

Eaglemoss Vixen

In ancient Africa, there was a legend that the warrior Tantu asked Anansi the Spider to create a totem that would give the wearer all of the powers of the animal kingdom, if they would use the power to protect the innocent. As shown in the pages of Animal Man, it is possible that the “Anansi” who Tantu met, may have been a member of the alien race who gave Buddy Baker the ability to “tap the morphogenetic field” — or, as shown in the pages of Justice League, the aliens may have been Anansi in disguise. This field allows Buddy to imitate the abilities of nearby animals. According to the Animal Man series, Mari’s Tantu totem may tap into that same field. Tantu used the totem to become Africa’s first legendary hero. The totem was later passed down to Tantu’s descendants until it reached the McCabes.

Growing up in a small African village in the fictional nation of Zambesi, M’Changa province, Mari Jiwe McCabe hears the legend of the “Tantu Totem” from her mother. Sometime later, Mari’s mother is killed by poachers and she is raised by her father Reverend Richard Jiwe, the village priest. Reverend Jiwe himself is killed by his half-brother (Mari’s uncle) General Maksai. Maksai wants the Tantu Totem, which Jiwe had possessed.
Vixen debuts in Action Comics #521.

Mari moves to America, where she establishes an identity as Mari McCabe and gets a job as a model in New York City. She uses her newfound wealth to travel the world. On a trip back to Africa, she comes across her uncle and takes back the Tantu Totem, using its power to become the costumed superhero Vixen.

UNRIVALED TOY CHEST OF ENTERTAINMENT AND LICENSING SUPPORT FOR WORLD-CLASS PORTFOLIO TO BE SHOWCASED

BURBANK, Calif., Feb. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — The Bat-Signal has summoned “The Caped Crusader” to an adventurous Toy Fair season. Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) is showcasing a powerful roster of global licensees in support of the studio’s unparalleled portfolio of entertainment properties, led by this summer’s blockbuster film The Dark Knight Rises. The epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s phenomenally popular Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, hits theaters July 20, 2012, and will be accompanied by a bevy of products from DC Comics master toy licensee, Mattel, and many other toy partners.

“We are heading into this year’s toy fairs with an impressive and diverse portfolio of partners converging upon a remarkably robust slate of content,” said Brad Globe, president of Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “Batman is a perennial success in the toy category, but when we have a film like The Dark Knight Rises driving so much anticipation, it creates global excitement for new products, especially toys and collectibles.”

“Batman is among the most iconic super heroes in popular culture, and this year’s merchandise program, highlighted by The Dark Knight Rises, reflects the incredible legacy of Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, as well as the longevity of the character over the course of time and across all forms of entertainment,” said Karen McTier, executive vice president of Domestic Licensing and Worldwide Marketing for Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

As a master toy partner, Mattel will unveil an exciting Batman toy collection across a range of categories including action figures, vehicles, playsets and collectible figures. Mattel’s broad offering incorporates their highly anticipated Movie Masters™ line for the older fans and serious collectors which captures the superior accuracy and details of the characters from The Dark Knight Rises. In addition, the authentic film-inspired toys introduce the innovative play technology QuickTek™, which offers snap-and-slide armor and accessories.

Mattel also plans to introduce the evergreen Batman Power Attack™ line that is designed to maintain the super hero’s momentum this year, and beyond. Additionally, Mattel will reach the youngest of Batman fans with Fisher-Price’s range of DC Super Friends Imaginext® toy line, which is already a huge hit in the U.S., U.K. and Spain, and is set to expand across Europe.

WBCP is also proud to build on its long-standing relationship and success with LEGO, the official partner in the construction category, with a myriad of new product offerings for the entire DC Universe Super Heroes line. Included within the new line are DC Universe inspired construction sets, mini-figures and buildable characters for great build-and-play adventures.

The world of DC Comics offers something for fans of all ages as WBCP and its partners gear up with a host of product lines including preschool games featuring DC Super Friends from Wonder Forge; a signature line of premium collectibles, art prints and articulated figures from Sideshow Collectibles; and a wide range of costume products from Rubie’s Costume Co., based on the entire DC Comics portfolio, including The Dark Knight Rises. With additional product support for The Dark Knight Rises, Funko will introduce their fun stylized plush and vinyl collection; Mezco will unmask colorfully detailed vinyl figures; and Hornby Hobbies will rev it up with a Scalextric limited edition Batman Tumbler vehicle; among many others.

WBCP Partners with Licensees in Support of Additional Blockbuster Properties

WBCP continues to align with top licensees around the world to support an unprecedented amount of Warner Bros. entertainment content, including more upcoming blockbuster films and diverse animation fare, to bring best-in-class creative products that range from toddler toys to the world of high-end collectibles.

“While Batman leads the way for us this year, we are also excited to have one of the most diverse portfolio of toy partners that we’ve had in some time– and the content to support them. We have a great animated series offering including The Looney Tunes Show, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, ThunderCats and the new DC Nation block featuring Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice, all on Cartoon Network, as well as the highly-anticipated films The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in December 2012 and The Hobbit: There and Back Again in December 2013,” added Globe.

The Two Films Based on The Hobbit Prepare for the Journey Back to Middle-earth

Master toy partners The Bridge Direct and Vivid Group will develop product for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (December 2012) and The Hobbit: There and Back Again (December 2013), productions of New Line Cinema and MGM. Also supporting the tent-pole, two-part adventure is LEGO with a range of fantastical build-and-play construction sets; Games Workshop with the leading tabletop hobby wargames; Ravensburger with the creation of 2D and 3D puzzles and card games; and WETA Workshop with a wide range of authentic film prop replicas and collectibles, among others.

Animated Fare, Including Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo and ThunderCats, Continues to Delight Fans

A cornerstone property for WBCP, Looney Tunes continues to be classically familiar yet refreshingly new, thanks to The Looney Tunes Show from Warner Bros. Animation (WBA), which has introduced the beloved characters to a new generation of kids and sparked their interest in the classic animated series. The all-time favorite is supported by an exciting and ever-expanding licensing program with licensees such as Lansay with a colorful plush assortment; and Rubie’s Costumes Co. with a collection of costumes based on Looney Tunes characters. As Scooby-Doo’s global master toy licensee, Character Group continues to bring everyone’s favorite Great Dane and his mystery-solving gang to life with a range of products including figures, plush toys, vehicles and play sets. Pressman Toy offers exciting games; NKOK debuts R/C motorized vehicles to rev-up the mysteries; and Lansay brings a cool and flashing remote control car that will light up many kids’ faces. Additionally, global toy partner Bandai America Incorporated continues to support the new ThunderCats animated series, based on the iconic 1980′s original, which has multiple generations of loyal fans with an action-packed toy line.

Highly Anticipated DC Nation Invasion Coming Soon

Cartoon Network’s DC Nation block, a multi-platform franchise featuring programming produced by Warner Bros. Animation (WBA), including Green Lantern: The Animated Series and an all-new season of Young Justice, will also debut in 2012. Backed by the production, publishing and marketing resources of Warner Bros., DC Entertainment and Cartoon Network, DC Nation will be the home for original animated kids television programming based on DC Comics properties and will be populated with event programming, interstitials, exclusive behind-the-scenes segments from theatrical productions, and an insider look into the world of all things DC Comics. DC Nation is set to debut in the U.S. in early 2012 on Cartoon Network. The content that makes up DC Nation is expected to launch in markets around the world thereafter.
