Cryptozoic and Warner Bros. Consumer Products Will Release Series 2 of DC Bombshells and Lil Bombshells at San Diego Comic-Con

Launch of Vinyl Figures and Sale of Three Comic-Con Exclusive DC Collectible Figures to Take Place at Cryptozoic’s Booth #115

Lake Forest, CA – July 12, 2017 – Cryptozoic Entertainment, leading creator of board games, trading cards, and collectibles, and Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Entertainment, today announced that they are launching Series 2 of both DC Bombshells and DC Lil Bombshells vinyl figures at San Diego Comic-Con, July 20-23 at the San Diego Convention Center. Fans can come to Cryptozoic’s booth (#115) for the first opportunity to buy the 7-inch and 2.75-inch Series 2 figures, which are inspired by 1940s pin-up art and focus on DC’s powerful female characters. In addition, Cryptozoic will be offering a limited number of three San Diego Comic-Con exclusive collectible figures that were first made available via online pre-order: “Golden Goddess” DC Bombshells vinyl figures, Metallic Red 25th Anniversary DC Lil Bombshells Harley Quinn vinyl figure, and DC’s The Joker Calling Card Statue – “Bloody Noir” Edition.

“Comic-Con played such a large part in making Series 1 of DC Bombshells and Lil Bombshells so successful, so we can’t wait to launch Series 2 of both lines at Comic-Con this year,” said Jeff Parker, Creative Director of Merchandise at Cryptozoic Entertainment. “We believe fans of the previous figures—and anyone who loves the DC Universe’s strong female characters—will love the new ones. We’re also very proud to be able to offer some exclusive Comic-Con variants of our DC collectible figures for the amazing fans who come to our booth!”

DC Bombshells are 7-inch vinyl figures that feature some of DC’s most popular female characters. Packaged in display-worthy window boxes, Series 2 includes Supergirl, Poison Ivy, and Batwoman. They were designed by Pedro Astudillo and sculpted by Anders Ehrenborg.

DC Lil Bombshells are smaller in scale, with each figure measuring approximately 2.75-inches tall. Series 2 presents new poses for Harley Quinn and Wonder Woman and eight characters that are new to the line: Supergirl, Batgirl, Lois Lane, Zatanna, Killer Frost, Huntress, Bumblebee, and Cheetah. There are also two rare “Noir” variants, bringing the total number of figures in the set to 12. Designed by Pedro Astudillo and sculpted by Sam Greenwell, each figure comes in Cryptozoic’s signature, collectible blind-reveal tin.

DC Lil Bombshells

“Golden Goddess” DC Bombshells are one of three Comic-Con exclusive collectibles being offered by Cryptozoic. Inspired by Wonder Woman’s roots in Greek mythology, these variants of the Series 1 DC Bombshells figures draw from classical Greek sculpture with their gold-and-white design for all three characters: Wonder Woman, Catwoman, and Harley Quinn. Only 250 of each figure has been produced for this limited run, with each packaged in a display-worthy window box that is individually numbered. The figures were designed by Pedro Astudillo and sculpted by Anders Ehrenborg.

The second SDCC-exclusive collectible is the Metallic Red 25th Anniversary DC Lil Bombshells Harley Quinn vinyl figure. To commemorate the 25-year history of the fan-favorite femme fatale, this variant of the Series 1 DC Lil Bombshells Harley Quinn figure stylishly sports only the iconic red color associated with the character. Each figure is stamped with a “Harley Quinn 25” logo on the base and comes individually hand-numbered from 1 to 500, making it the lowest-run DC Lil Bombshells figure Cryptozoic has produced to date. The figure was designed by Pedro Astudillo and sculpted by Sam Greenwell.

The final SDCC-exclusive collectible is DC’s The Joker Calling Card Statue – “Bloody Noir Edition.” This variant of the regular DC’s The Joker Calling Card Statue, the first in Cryptozoic’s series of hand statues, is a hand-painted, 7-inch tall polyresin statue that depicts the DC Super-Villain’s iconic gloved hand splattered with blood from one of his many victims. In addition to the regular four interchangeable Joker cards, this variant comes with an exclusive Cryptozoic Promo Card. Each statue comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and is individually hand-numbered from 1 to 200, making it one of the most limited statues Cryptozoic has ever produced. It was sculpted by Mana Studios.

Batman: The Animated Series Almost Got ’Im Card Game

Social Deduction Game Is Based on Fan-Favorite Episode of Batman: The Animated Series

Lake Forest, CA – February 27, 2017 – Cryptozoic Entertainment, leading creator of board games, trading cards, and collectibles, and Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Entertainment, announced the release of the Batman: The Animated Series Almost Got ’Im Card Game. The 5-8 player social deduction game is based on the classic “Almost Got ’Im” episode of Batman: The Animated Series in which Gotham City’s most infamous rogues play poker and tell stories about almost defeating Batman, not knowing one of them is actually Batman in disguise. Players take on the roles of various DC Super-Villains of the Caped Crusader, one of whom is secretly Batman. The action centers around participants gathering the poker cards needed to activate special abilities. The Super-Villain players use their abilities and guile to try and figure out which of them is Batman, while the Batman player tries to defeat the Super-Villains before they discover his or her identity.

“It was really the episode ‘Almost Got ’Im’ that inspired us,” said Matt Hyra, Lead Board Game Designer at Cryptozoic Entertainment. “That particular Batman: The Animated Series episode plays out like a session from a social deduction game, so it seemed like a perfect fit. It doesn’t hurt that the episode is widely considered one of the best in the series.”

In this Mafia-style social deduction game, one person takes on the role of the Dealer, who moderates the proceedings. Players start by choosing oversized Character Cards, which assign them their DC Super-Villain roles, such as The Joker, Harley Quinn, and The Penguin. These are seen by all players, allowing them to be called by their characters’ names. Then, the Dealer doles out Secret Role Cards, listing each player’s Secret Role (not to be shown to other players), the poker hand needed to activate his or her secret ability, and what the secret ability does. One player will receive the “Batman in Disguise” Secret Role Card, meaning his or her Super-Villain is actually Batman in disguise as that Super-Villain.

Every round, each player has a chance to improve his or her poker hand and reach the goal shown on his or her Secret Role Card by either drawing a card or taking a card from one of three discard piles. After this, the first player that round (called “The Brains”) may accuse another player of being Batman; if seconded, it goes to a Vote. If the accused player is Voted guilty, one of two things happens. If the player is indeed Batman, the Super-Villains win. If the guilty party is a Super-Villain, the character is Subdued, losing his or her special abilities. The player who is Batman requires a certain number of Subdues to win, determined by the number of players in the game.

After the Voting phase, there is a Blackout, in which all players close their eyes. The Dealer goes to each player, calling the player by his or her DC Super-Villain name. If the player has the required cards to make his or her designated poker hand, the player may hand them over to the Dealer, who activates the player’s special ability and gives him or her five new cards. After this sequence, they open their eyes. The Dealer announces if anyone was Subdued during the Blackout and, unless Batman or the Super-Villains have won, play proceeds to the next round.
Batman: The Animated Series Almost Got ’Im Card Game is available at retailers nationwide now for a suggested retail price of $19.99.

Next on our whirlwind tour of Toy Fair 2017, we take a look at the Cryptozoic Entertainment booth.  There seems to be lots of cool DC Comics branded collectibles here.

Of particular note are the Super Powers pennants.  While they aren’t action figures or cool doodads to put on a shelf, they harken back to the days of old, and really hit on the nostalgia factor.  The new Mini Shoe Collection looks to be something that might be quite collectible as well.

Overall, there are some fantastic items to be had in 2017 from Cryptozoic Entertainment.

As always, check out the source link at the bottom of the article for even more detailed photos of all the items on display at their booth.
