It is now official. With the successful defense of their Superman copyright, Warner Bros. has decided to move full steam ahead with a Justice League movie. The film will begin filming next year and go up against Avengers 2 in 2015! What a year that will be for comic book fans!
The studio is expected to accelerate development of a planned “Justice League” movie that would join Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman and other characters, according to a knowledgeable person not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.
Warner hopes to shoot the film next year and release it in the summer of 2015. The studio already has a “Justice League” script in the works. Next it needs to attach a director and then cast the lead roles.
Warner Bros. will take the opposite approach that Marvel has with their films. The Justice League movie will spin-off its heroes into their own solo movies. Whether or not Henry Cavil will remain as Superman has not been confirmed, but you have to think that he will be kept on as the Man of Steel.
With Green Lantern failing and Wonder Woman and The Flash in “development hell”, the only DC Comics character that has truly been successful in recent years has been Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise.
